Do clinical trials pay, and how much?
Many do. The amount depends on how much the study asks of you: a few short visits may pay a few hundred dollars, while studies with overnight stays or repeated procedures can pay several thousand. Payment is set by the study, reviewed by an ethics board, and explained to you before you agree to anything.
Can I take part if I am healthy?
Yes. Many studies look for healthy volunteers, for example to check how safe a new treatment is or to compare results with people who have a condition. Check "Healthy volunteers" in the search to see studies open to you.
Are clinical trials safe?
Your safety comes first, but no study is risk-free. Every clinical trial in the U.S. must be approved and overseen by an Institutional Review Board (IRB), which checks that the risks are reasonable compared with the possible benefits. The research team explains the risks before you agree, and you can leave a study at any time.
Do I have to pay anything to take part?
Taking part usually costs you nothing. The study provides the treatment being tested and covers study-related tests and visits. Many studies cover your travel costs, and some even pay you for your time. If anything is not covered, the research team will tell you before you agree. Using AllClinicalTrials is always free.
Can I take part from home?
Sometimes. Some studies run partly or fully from home, with video visits, home nurse visits or medicine shipped to you. Others need visits to a clinic. Ask the research team which options a study offers.
How do I sign up for a clinical trial?
Search for trials by condition and location. On any trial, click "Learn more" to read the details, or click "See if you qualify" to fill in a short screener. If you may be a match, your answers are sent to the research team, who will contact you to confirm whether you qualify.
